There's a scene in Office Space that looks like it may have been lifted from another movie. It's the scene where they kick the crap out of the printer. Is this a reference to something, or does it just seem that way?

If you don't know, feel free to post your favorite line from that movie. Face it, you were going to anyway. I'll start:

"PC load letter? What the fuck does that mean?"

I don't think it is a reference to another movie. Just a take on the white gollar guys giving a "gangsta beatdown" on a printer.

My memories are hazy, but don't they do a kind of slo mo, 'King of the Apes' Kubrick 2001 thing, beating on the printer parts, instead of bones?

Maybe I'm just imagining it, cuz it could be a cool scene.

I always thought it was some sort of mafia spoof.

Doesn't Joe Pesci get bludgeoned to death in a cornfield with a baseball bat in "The Goodfellas"?

No. In the movie Goodfellas, the character played by Joe Pesciis shot in the head as retribution for his role in killing a 'made man'. Pesci was lured to the scene by the promise that he was about to be 'made'. The man Pesci killed, with the assistance of de Niro and Liotta, was first beaten in a bar, placed in the trunk of a car, driven to a remote area, stabbed and shot, and then dismembered and buried.

Peter
"t's a problem of motivation, all right? Now if I work my ass off and Initech ships a few extra units, I don't see another dime, so where's the motivation? And here's another thing, I have eight different bosses right now. "

Bob
"Eight?"

Peter
"Eight, Bob. So that means when I make a mistake, I have eight different people coming by to tell me about it. That's my only real motivation is not to be hassled, that, and the fear of losing my job. But you know, Bob, that will only make someone work just hard enough not to get fired. "

Priceless.

In context--even better...

Michael - There was nothing wrong with it... until I was about 12 years old and that no-talent ass clown became famous and started winning Grammys.

Samir - Hmm... well why don't you just go by Mike instead of Michael?

Michael - No way. Why should I change? He's the one who sucks.

I might be misremembering the line a bit - been awhile since I watched it.

Tom: It's a "Jump to Conclusions Mat". You see, you have this mat, with different Conclusions written on it that you could Jump To.
Michael: That is the worst idea I've ever heard.
Samir: Yes, this is horrible, this idea.

Peter: Before we go any further, all right, we have to swear to God, Allah, that nobody knows about this, all right? No family members, no girlfriends, nobody.
Samir: Of course.
Michael: Agreed
Lawrence: (through the wall) Don't worry man. I won't tell anyone about this either.
Michael: Who the fuck is that?
Peter: Uh, don't worry about him. He's cool.

Joanna: How dare you judge me? Look at you. You're just some penny-stealing... criminal... man.
Peter: Well that may be, but at least I never slept with Lumbergh.

Michael: If we get caught, we're not going to white-collar resort prison. No, no, no. We're going to federal POUND ME IN THE ASS prison.
Samir: I don't want to go to ANY prison!

Bob: We'll be getting rid of these people here... First, Mr. Samir Naga... Naga... Naga... Not gonna work here anymore, anyway.

Lawyer: You know, minimum security prison is no picnic. I had a client in there once. He said the trick is kick someone's ass the first day, or become somebody's bitch. Then everything will be alright.

Peter: Let me ask you something. When you come in on Monday, and you're not feelin' real well, does anyone ever say to you, 'Sounds like someone has a case of the Mondays'?
Lawrence: No. No, man. Shit, no, man. I believe you'd get your ass kicked sayin' something like that, man.

Samir: In... in these conjugal visits, you can have sex with women?
Peter: Yep, you sure can.
Samir: OK, I'll do it.

By the way, for those that don't know, Mike Judge (writer/director of Office Space, and creator of Beavis and Butthead) was Joanna's boss who lectured her about the flair.

Before someone looks it up and says "NO HE WASN'T THAT'S SOME OTHER GUY NAMED WILLIAM KING", yes, it is Mike Judge - a myriad of sources, including IMDB, confirm this.

(Similarly, Dustin Hoffman and Michael Jackson were on The Simpsons too, even though they were never listed under their real names.)

You're thinking of Casino, another Scorcsese/De Niro/Pesci film.

Trivia:
The guy who kicks him (Frank Vincent, I believe) is the made man who Pesci et al kill in Goodfellas. He's also the promoter that Pesci kicks the living shit out of in Raging Bull. Both times Vincent suffered from cracked/broken ribs. In Casino, Pesci suffers a broken rib when he was thrown in the grave.

I think the young people enjoy it when I "get down" verbally.

This is one of my favorite movies.

I think the scene is a spoof, or homage, of a similar scene in one of those early 90s gangsta movies like 'Boyz in the Hood', though I'm not sure which one. I know I have seen the same slow-motion POV beatdown in several rap music videos, which I think are also copying the same original scene.
