Random question, or a poll I suppose.

So I bought some of those nifty 2000 Flushes disks that makes the toilet water blue. Believe me, as a bachelor who lives alone, this is unique occurance.

I got the super duper one that has two tablets, one blue for color I guess, and one white thats supposedly bleach for cleaning. Fine and dandy. The instructions are pretty straight forward: Drop both in and have 2000 flushes worth of happy blueness.

However, mine doesn't work. Go figure. What am I doing wrong, anyone else have a problem with these things? The water gets blue when it;s flushed, but then it sits and it seems to settle out of the bowl. Almost like it's not actually soluable. If i look in the tank, it's blue while it fills. Then I go back and look again and the blue has all pooled at the bottom of the tank.

Did I seriously screw up the instructions here or what? They couldn;t have possibly invented a product that so obviously doesn't work, would they? What gives? Theories, suggestions, funny anecdotes?

Wish I could help you. I bought one of those 2000 flushes things too, but mine also doesn't work. Although, in my case, it's probably because it's still sitting in the box, on top of the toilet tank.

Grrr!

Eh, never had the problem you're talking about. I stoped using those things because after a while, the blue gunk starts to build up around the rim of your toilet (where the water comes from the tank).

I still to this day can't figure out how to get that shit off of there.

Now I just use the ones that clip on to the side of your toilet. Works much better and smells nicer too.

You should avoid using chlorine-based products in the tank. Eventually, the chlorine will deform the rubber parts and possibly cause a leak.

I'm not a plumber, but it sounds to me like you have a slow leak through the valve that shuts off the water after the tank fills. Water is leaking in slowly, pushing the blue water down to the bottom. The leak is slow enough that new blue doesn't come into the water.

Wouldn't it just leak more blue water in?
Do you have hard water? I have no idea if that would make the product less soluble or not, but it's the only thing I can think of.

Definitely e-mail the manufacturer of your woes and they'll probably send you free coupons! I do this whenever I'm unhappy with the performance of a product and 99.9% of the time I end up with a crapload of coupons for their other products!

Just an update. I finally got around to installing the product a few weeks ago. It's weird. I'm pretty sure the toilet doesn't have leaks. Sometimes the blue completely disappears after an hour or two, other times it seems to survive overnight. WTH?

The blue never settles at the bottom of the bowl, as in the OP.

I'm thinking maybe sometimes extra bleach gets in there and deactivates the blue or something.

The times I used those, they didn't really keep the bowl clean. The blue concealed the buildup of gunk, and stained it blue. I still had to clean it. There is no free lunch.

As Mr. Blue Sky said (Blue - haha!) it's not a good idea to use these things if you're concerned about the life of your toilet.

I just got some new toilets, and their instructions are quite clear in saying not to use drop-in cleaners. Clear, as in your warranty is void if you use the things.

The chemicals can harm the guts of the toilet, and they're not necessarily the best thing for a dog to drink if you forgot to put the lid down. Could be worse. A neighbor asked me to look at their toilet that was running - I took the tank lid off, and the tank was full of plastic containers from whatever brand they were using. One of the empties had moved over just enough to interfere with the float. Never occurred to him that the empties might need to be removed now and then. :smack:

Oh, great. Now the consensus is to not use these things.

Now I have to go flush my toilet 1900 times just to get rid of it.

I can't believe this thread got dug up!

Anyways, I think the stuff is settling to the bottom, but its settling so far behind the pipe bend that you can't see it. If you look in th ebasin in the back all the color is settled at the bottom, it gets stirred up with the flush and then resettles.

Annoying crap I say!

I'll be my usual downer self and say be careful about using the bleach ones if you have any friends with sensitive airways. My friend with RADS was sent to the floor gasping by the funes from a toilet with a bleach drop-in being flushed down the hall from her.
