View Full Version : Need songs/music with that "electronic voice" in them.

01-14-2009, 06:07 AM
I hope you all understand what I'm talking about.

It's like that retro-disco-tech type music then you'll hear the "electric voice" come on and say something to the effect of "Get your ass out on the dance floor..yadda, yadda yadda..."

I'm trying to make a CD for my friend. We were at the bar the other day when one of these types of songs came on. She told me she LOVES songs with the electric voice in them because you KNOW they're always going to rock. :D

Anyway I thought it would be funny to make her a CD with nothing but "Electronic Voice Songs"

Do you mean the vocoder, that computerises a human voice? Or the completely artificial Stephen Hawking voice?

01-14-2009, 07:12 AM

Satisfaction by Benny Benassi has a female voice that sounds very vocoder like.

Koochy by Armand Van Helden also has a vocoder-like voice in it, too...

Nails for Breakfast, Tacks for Snacks by Panic at the Disco is an example of a non-over the top use of it, which in your case may be a good or a bad thing.

01-14-2009, 11:00 AM
"Do It!" by Death from Above 1979 link to live version (http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=51r1r73psjQ) (vocoder part around 1:15)

No such compilation would be complete without "Disco Dancer (http://last.fm/music/Christopher+Just/_/I'm+a+Disco+Dancer)" by Christopher Just. (or the Fatboy Slim remix (http://youtube.com/watch?v=EO5_BWz5Bso), though it's not quite as funny as the original)

01-14-2009, 11:28 AM
Daft Punk Harder Better Faster Stronger, but i guess most of their songs have electronic voice

i guess a classic would be

Karn Evil 9, Third Impression (http://youtube.com/watch?v=zJaEYIQzm30&feature=related) has the voice of a computer, but it's significantly creepier than most of the other examples.

How could I have forgotten this little gem?

"Everybody to the Limit (Fhqwhgads)" (http://youtube.com/watch?v=hT0bvy2IzsQ). Probably a lot better if you're a Homestarrunner fan, but I like to think it stands on its own.

Combichrist's "This shit will fuck you up" (Youtube link (http://youtube.com/watch?v=htM3LhX27mc)) is all in a vaguely female vocoder voice. The lyrics are kind of, uhm, blue, though.

01-14-2009, 03:09 PM
Twilight (http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=nH5OcLFP2M8&feature=related), by ELO. (Starts at ~0:40)

01-14-2009, 03:31 PM
Keep Talking by Pink Floyd from The Division Bell.

And it's no other than Stephen Hawking who "keeps talking" in the song intro!

A youtube link to my earlier suggestion:

"Watch Us Work It" by Devo

Combichrist's "This shit will fuck you up" (Youtube link (http://youtube.com/watch?v=htM3LhX27mc)) is all in a vaguely female vocoder voice. The lyrics are kind of, uhm, blue, though.Heh yeah, you could say that! The first time I listened to it, I was enjoying and then I started to think...hey...what did she say??

A couple of other suggestions...

Apoptygma Berzerk - Kathy's Song (http://youtube.com/watch?v=Ci_LIavsEhQ) (though the vocoder is only in the second half)
Splendor Projekt - Energy (interface 2x mix) (http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewProfile&friendID=174386412)* (it's in the player, you may have to scroll and select that particular track)

*shameless plug

Also by Pink Floyd: A New Machine Pt. 1 and A New Machine Pt. 2 from A Momentary Lapse of Reason.

Hide and Seek by Imogen Heap.

There are essentially three ways the "electronic voice" effect is done, vocoders (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vocoder) are used in most of the tracks mentioned. The talk box (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk_box) was used mainly to make guitars talk, notably by Peter Frampton. Finally, recently, Cher and most notably T-Pain use a pitch-correcting software called Auto-Tune (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Auto-tune), but intentionally set parameters to get an unnatural effect.

01-14-2009, 08:05 PM
The genre is called, "Acid House". Now go to town.

01-14-2009, 08:06 PM
Satisfaction by Benny Benassi has a female voice that sounds very vocoder like.

Great booty club track. Back when I was throwing parties, my partner would play this one all the time.

Underworld - Cowgirl (http://youtube.com/watch?v=l2q4DPdrR8Y)

01-14-2009, 08:09 PM
There is also a midi controlled vocoding program, but I forget the name. It is used to make a text to speech program actually sing. The best use I know of it is Apoptygma Berzerk - Kathy's Song, but it's not like a dance track.
