An interesting aside, possibly related to the site being down: I usually go to the site by Googling for oglaf and then clicking the link, so as to prevent it from making its way into my browser's address drop-down (just in case my nieces are ever using my computer and click the wrong place, or something). But Google now doesn't actually list oglaf.com as a result for a search on oglaf. And yes, I have Safe Search turned off. Huh?

Last I heard it was set so it no longer went to anything lower than what used to be called "moderate safe search", unless you put in additional search terms - and then you still get different results than you used to. Some things are harder to find than they used to be, because they have something like a swimmer in trucks that the algorithm thinks is porn.

Yes, I was just checking that out, and it's either safe on or off, and off is the old moderate. Which sucks, because as you said most of the relevant non-explicit images you are looking for will not show up in the moderate safe search.

The Google Safe Search thing began a couple of months ago. It's to prevent innocent searches from bringing up explicit imagery. If you want explicit you can specify and it will comply, but otherwise looking up "goats" will just get you goats.

At first I was a bit annoyed, but eventually accepted that it was probably the right way to do things.

At first I was a bit annoyed, but eventually accepted that it was probably the right way to do things.I disagree. First, because it already did that; you just had do switch it to Moderate Safe search. This change meant that people who didn't want Safe Search had no choice but to use it. And second, the work-arounds don't produce the same results as the non-safe search Google did; it makes it harder to find all sorts of things. And third, you have no way of knowing what you are missing because it gets censored before you ever see it.

Not jumped the shark...just in a period of laziness. Coasting. It'll get better.

This happens to comic strips...a lot. Doonesbury, Tumbleweeds, any number of others. Even the very great Pogo had occasional slow periods (such as the very long soliloquies of the Kansas Jayhawk. Droll, but dry as a Kansas dust-storm.)

Upon review, I disagree.
In both panels 5 and 7 (which bracket the "Heh, Look At Us Go" of panel 6), the newlywed couple (well, maybe they are not married, not sure) has pretty much the same 'somewhat pleased' expressions. In panel 8, they hold hands, have bigger smiles and apparently are blushing some. The ending works just fine.
The only question remaining is what happened to the blonde...prostitute's stocking tops in panel 6...

More to the point, from the dialog in the final frames it's making fun of faux-"feminist" fantasy scenarios wherein the women are to reject thrusting weapons BUT get to still battle around in strippergear armor and with perfect hair.

Cite? I figured the comic was poking fun at over zealous feminists by being absurd about the 'engulfing' weapons. The humor comes from the fact that they are exaggerating. I can't believe there are so called feminists out there who honestly 'reject phallic items in favor of 'enveloping items'.

ROFL! I was in a campaign once where we had to forage in the woods and the DM was constantly messing with our heads about what was safe to eat or not. The thing was, we were following a band of assassins who had stolen an artifact we were being payed to recover, and it was plausible they'd set traps for any pursuers.

title="I'm thinking of changing my middle name to 'the'."

This Miss Ride the Pony intrigues me, though I'm a little disappointed that she's not really a pony.

For my name a 'the' in the middle works.

Mrs. Plant (v.3.0) said, "Honey, that's just life. You work with a bunch of idiots and just do whatever you have to to get them to do their work. I guess it is funny, art imitates life."

Whatever works to get the kingdom back. "The" as a middle name works well for me.

If he'd become a top-level Mafioso, would that have been "Crown the Don"?

Will he eventually be known as Don The Crown The First?

Instead of opening different browsers you could just hit F5, you get a random headline every time you load the page. :)

I've been using an iPad & haven't been able to figure out how to access the hidden tag lines. Anyone have any tips?

Love the new one (http://oglaf.com/bugfuck/). Especially the epilogue (http://oglaf.com/bugfuck/epilogue/).

Another possibly iPad related question... I discovered Oglaf through the Dope quite some time ago & check in from time to time to follow along with this thread and catch up on the ongoing discussion. Anyways, when I first discovered this great comic, I went through from start to finish and read all of the strips and story lines.

From time to time I'll run into a comic that's being discussed here that doesn't ring a bell. I'll click on the link and get this Easter-egg of a comic that I somehow had completely missed. The same thing just happened with this epilogue. I can only get to it by linking from this thread. When I click through on the Oglaf site itself I can't for the life of me find this particular epilogue...

Any thoughts?

Apparently. If you look over on the right side of the strip, you'll see the links - Next Page, Prev Story, Next Story, Start, Archive. But sometimes you'll also see a link to Epilogue (or Vocabulary Bears).

Or you could cheat:

Should have read through another couple of posts! Would have saved myself a few minutes of typing and editing...:smack:

The tooth fairy swapped treasure for teeth.

:smack:

I thought it had something to do with the old legends about sowing dragons teeth to grow monsters, but couldn't figure out how it got from there to a giant pile of treasure.

Mar 2 strip: "Bascinet" http://oglaf.com/bascinet/

It occurs to me that in the Oglaf universe you could probably form an entire corp just of "things that have to contain themselves in suits of armor".

I don't think so, but after awhile, a lot of the secondary characters start to look the same. But so do people in real life, so that's not really a flaw.
