Does Six Feet Under contain nudity, swearing, and violence?

Perhaps this is a laughable question, but for all I know, Six Feet Under may be as "clean" as Home Improvement or it could be Showgirls.

I can't find a television site that rates television by content like Screenit.com or KidsInMind.com, so I came here.

What is this show like, content wise?

Yup. I doubt there's an episode that goes by without at least a little swearing, and one of the main characters in particular has a habit of dropping f-bombs whenever he gets freaked out about something, which happens pretty often. Nudity isn't terribly prevalent, but there's as least a little every few episodes, and there are sex scenes rather more frequently than that. Violence doesn't appear in every episode, although there are a handful of scenes of shocking violence throughout the series, and someone dies in the opening of almost every episode (usually by accident, and often comically, but still.)

THe show is well worth watching, and there's nothing in there that a high-school kid, or even someone a little younger, hasn't seen before, but it's by no means for children.

Not too much violence but one particular episode was very, very violent. Lots of swearing and nudity as well as adult themes. That excellent series is not for kids.

It's not raunchy at all, but it is adult. If two people are having sex, you're going to see and hear them going "uh, uh, uh!"

And if you're likely to faint at the sight of a corpse (they do run a funeral home) sporting some wood, then you should screen the show before watching it with the kiddies.

It's not gratuitous sex & swearing, but again, it is an adult show.

Six Feet Under is an adult show that contains.

Swearing, graphic violence, murder, corpse mishandlings, and loads of drug use.

Sex deserves it's own list of subcategories that will include for starters..

Straight
Gay
Bi-sexual
Blackmailed into....with a black male btw and gay for god measure.
Polyamourus, anonymous, opportunistic
Adulterous
Prositutional - (male prostitute)
Incestual
And more...

But aside from the graphic nature the show had an astonishingly "deep" cast and endless story/plot lines. Very well written, sharp, interesting, and dark. Often it was very thought provoking and I think it was pulling down awards....good call on pulling the plug HBO.

It's also not for children because it would bore them to death.

I turned it on for a few minutes at my father's place, once. He hadn't seen it previously, watched briefly, and acidly commented "Do they used any words with other than four letters?"

I really felt like replying "Well, 'bitch' comes up now and then," but some instinct made my hold my tongue.

See some of us here now have the "Deadwood" standard for swearing. That's a tough one to match. It's out f-bombed "The Sopranos".

There are empirical date which establish Deadwood's proficiency with profanity. Comparison data has yet to be provided.

"Bastard" and "fucking" would fit, too. And then, there are the countless other words which aren't swears that have more than four letters, such as (for example, from this post itself), "there," "countless," "other," "words," "which," "aren't," "swears." "letters," "example," and "itself."

The geezer who purchased the rights for the show for Channel 4 over here is a very good mate of mine. He was, naturally, very proud of this but he was also tremendously proud that he was responsible for the first erection to be shown on UK terrestrial television - there's one sported by a corpse in a show in the first season (might even have been in the pilot).

There isn't a huge amount of nudity but I certainly remember naked female breasts sported by Anne Dudek playing a character called Allison Williman, who is picked up by Nate in series 3.
