Men: Your rectal exams: Ever had a lady doctor do it?

And I mean in the actual doctor's office, not 'playing doctor' somewhere else.

The discomfort of having the opposite sex do your sexual exams came up in another thread, and now I want to know if straight men have had problems with women doctors doing their prostate exams. Or if gay men prefer them. Or if anyone really gives a shit, since once you've got something up your bum in a doctor's office, you're not likely there for fun!

I was going to make this a pole thread...err, poll, thread...

Ok lost train of thought.

Sure. My current Primary Care Physician is a woman, as was her predecessor. About twenty years now. I couldn't care less about the gender of any medical professional.

I've had four female doctors in my life. Physicals are pretty impersonal. Also, if I'm going to allow somebody to handle my nether parts, I'd rather it was a woman that a man. One of the doctors (who was also a friend) held up her finger and told me "if this is the largest thing you ever have stuck up there, consider yourself lucky."

I've had both a rectal exam and a sigmoidoscopy done by a female doctor.
It never occurred to me that gender mattered, only my health.

I've never had a rectal exam but once I did wish for a male doctor, it was when I had orchitis and my right testicle was swollen up to the size of a small eggplant.

She was unbelievably rough(without warning she squeezed a horribly swollen painful testicle?!?) to the point I was shocked and completely dismissed my pain which was what brought me in as it was unbearable.

Never did figure it out(cultures showed nothing and they speculated it could be viral), turned out I had dengue at the time without knowing it so one doctor said it could have been that.

No, but I don't think it would bother me. A friend is my doctor and his wife is a Nurse Practitioner in the same office. The last time I was sick, I saw her as she was available (and he wasn't) she gave me a shot in the butt. That is the closest I have come to being "groped" by a female doctor.

When she stuck her finger up my ass, I was a bit uncomfortable. When she stuck her hand up my ass, I started wondering. When stuck her foot up my ass, I was dumbstruck.

More seriously, neither she nor I enjoy the experience, and it would not make any difference at all as to whether my doctor was male or female.

What these guys just said. My doc is a lady, and we both pretend, in a wonderfully Victorian fashion, that nothing whatever is going on back there.

I had anal surgery, some years ago -- surpassing unpleasant! -- and was prepped for surgery by a female nurse. Several of the surgical attendants were also women. I've had my nasty infected feak on display to an astonishing number of women.

For some reason, I've never been comfortable watching that particular variety of porn......

Whatever works for you. In a more modern fashion that requires no pretense, my Doc and I act as if a medical procedure is being performed.

I dunno - my wife always says that a male gynae is more gentle than the female variety - so I wonder if the reverse is true for guys?

I've got no real preference for variety of doc, but no fingers have ever been up my butt

I actually prefer a lady doctor to do the unpleasant deed, I guess because only women ever have their hands on my nether regions outside the medical realm. I think I've had someone's fingers up my ass about four times altogether, always by a doctor and only once by a female one.

Yes. I've had rectal and genital things performed by female doctors (and nurses). They were always professional and didn't make me feel uncomfortable at all. I'd have no issues doing it again.

You just have to remember how many arses and dicks they've seen in their line of work. They're immune to it now.

I've only ever had 3 rectal exams. Two by female docs, 1 by a male doc.

The only time it ever bothered me was my first exam at 15 when I was signing up for the wrestling team and needed a complete physical. The doc was a very beautiful woman with a very nice chest area, and back then darn near anything gave me an erection.

I thought I was going to burst into flame I was blushing so hard. She acted like nothing was wrong though, did the whole turn your head and cough bit, and it was over.

The next time it was no big deal, just a routine exam.

I don't remember the one done by the male doctor, as I was delirious with pain at the time.

Yeah, and I was more squicked out by having a female nurse in the room as a witness than having the FemDoc do the deed.

I loved that doctor, but she was not photogenic. The jolly factor was less than 0.

Well, considering the furious sweaty half naked man-hugging that would ensue, I suppose being hetro is the easiest way to go.

Note: I wrestle myself, and I couldn't care less if my opponent is gay or female or both. The above comment should be taken as humorous take on the homoeroticism many perceive of the sport, and not a snide against wrestling or wrestlers of any gender or disposition.

Dave Barry had an article where he talked about going to a Dr. Edwina Scissorhands for his exam. I can never get that image out of my mind.

I had an anal fissure about 10 years ago, and the specialist my then-primary sent me to was an attractive woman. When she did her exam, she had two assistants- one female and one male- back there with her. I will say it was a strange experience to have an attractive woman, with whom I was not having any romantic relationship, lube up a finger and slide it up my ass.

These days, my primary is a guy, and we know each other socially- we see each other a couple times a year at neighborhood cocktail parties, and such- and it's a little weirder. Only because of the social aspect.

I haven't had a rectal exam yet (though I suppose it's getting to be about time,) but I have had a female doctor palpate/manipulate/examine a testicle.

I don't think gender plays a significant role in how uncomfortable that is.

Funny story about a guy I knew who went to a female doctor who gave him a digital rectal exam. She says, "You are very tense. Is that because I'm a woman?" He answers, "No, I get tense whenever anybody does that."

My first prostate exam was performed by a doctor who was '
  • female
  • apparently about sixteen years old
  • at least ten and a half months pregnant.
Yes, I know she is used to it. I'm not, dammit.

OTOH, I've had the same thing done by men since, and it's no better when Dr. Handupthebutt has hair in his ears.

Regards,
Shodan

Yep. Years ago I had a medical issue with severe gut pain and made an appointment to go see a doctor after stoically waiting a couple of days too long to do so. First doctor male goes exploring> sent to the ER because he thinks I've burst my appendix and ER doctor, male, decides to launch his own expedition > then THIRD doctor, female, comes over and wants entry. At this point I'm protesting weakly that I've already been probed more than once but she overrides me and says " hey, at least I have smaller fingers than they do." She was at least right about that.

A little later a FOURTH doctor, female, comes over to talk to me wearing rubber gloves and I flinch and comment on my by that point all too thorough examination of that area of my anatomy. Turns out she was just very germ conscious, but it gave me a scare .

I work with a group of men who teach the rectal exam to medical and nursing students, so that they know how to perform the exam without hurting their patients. We have all experienced hundreds of these painless exams, that take about 10 seconds. We haven't noticed any difference between rectal exams performed by either men or women.

I think this was a short video on Funny or Die?
Doctor: "Don't worry, it's completely normal to get an erection during a prostate exam."
Patient: "Um ... I don't have an erection."
Doctor: "I wasn't talking about you."
Awkward situations that can be entirely avoided!

My doctor is a sexy black-haired Polish woman my own age (early 40s). A real no-nonsense type. She always approaches the rectal-exam part of my yearly physical with a statement like, "Sorry to have to do this, but..." or "There's nothing neutral about what I'm about to do to you..." Meanwhile, I secretly like the exam. I'm straight, BTW. It might be a latent female-dominance thing. I don't know. I DO know that if it was a male doctor, it wouldn't be exciting to me at all.

So, I was admitted to the Cleveland Clinic back in the mid-80's after experiencing an acute medical problem involving my genitalia mid-way through my pathophysiology final exam. I won't go into detail about my symptoms, but it was something that was causing me great anxiety, reflecting on possible diagnoses. My train of thought was interrupted when the grand rounds team entered my room: a gruff looking middle-aged male attending and four young residents—one guy and three beautiful females (I'm not kidding).

They discussed my case for a minute or two, then the attending asked if they could examine my naughty bits, front and back (he used different terminology, of course). Well, I kind of wish I'd asked them to come back when I wasn't filled with so much “pent up anxiety”, but, accommodating person that I am, I gave permission for the medical groping to commence.

I stood up and the attending pulled up my gown, exposing my manliness to the four baby-docs to behold. As beautiful resident #1 bent down to examine, I closed my eyes and used all my powers of mental disassociation to prevent an embarrassing genital situation from arising. She probed, plied and palpated for what seemed like eternity, but I succeeded in keeping things relaxed and decidedly un-stiff. Call me Mr. Cool. Then, it was beautiful resident #2's turn. I broke out in a cold sweat, but, again, my genitalia did not throw me under the bus. Whew. Then, it was resident #3's turn (the dude) to go all touchy-feely on me. Please God, don't let anything stir down there now (not that there's anything wrong with that). Success. Thank you, God...I promise to go back to church one of these days (I lied). Finally, it was beautiful resident #4's turn at bat. Did I mention she looked like Kathy Ireland (an 80's hottie)?

Schwing!

She said, “whoopsie-daisy” (really, she did), and I said, “I'm really sorry about that”. That's the last thing I remember about my stay at the Cleveland Clinic. They diagnosed me properly and a routine surgical procedure kept me alive. I just died from embarrassment.

The smooth way to handle that situation is to compliment her on her engagement ring. "That's quite a big diamond."

I've only had males and prefer it that way. The last time it happened the doc asked if 6 med students could watch. If it anything I would have been fine with it, but I declined.

Do most people (men) really find the rectal exam that traumatic? For me, it's really not a big deal. Unlike some (I'm talking about our new member Caranport) I don't actually look forward to the exam, but I don't find it uncomfortable or something to be dreaded.

At my last checkup, I had the dubious pleasure of a prostate exam. My doctor (a woman) kept apologizing. I told her that it was my ass in her face, so I felt that I should be the one apologizing.

Yes. My last three doctors, including current doctor have been female.

I once had a very attractive female RN hold my penis while injecting a local anesthetic down the only opening my penis has. Having an erection was not a concern.

They say a few years ago at the Iowa State Fair, they were doing prostate exams as part of a "Health Fair" screening and had to start marking each backside with a big black X. Seems some fellas were getting in line more than once.

Thank you, thank you. I'm here all week, try the veal.
My current GP is male and slightly younger than I, but when I lived in another town, I had a lady doc. I only had one physical with her, she was totally professional and told me my prostate was a little spongy, which she attributed to my drinking cola. Well, I didn't stop drinking colas and none of my other docs have mentioned anything unusual about my prostate. Maybe she just had a thing against colas.

Prostate exam by woman

That's the reason all things being equal I would rather have a woman for health care. My physical therapist, massage practitioner and my family practice docs are all women. Have a prostate exam tomorrow, in fact. I feel much more comfortable having by body touched by a woman.

I can't be the only guy who feels that way.
