My wife and I bought a new air conditioner. We have had it on straight through since yesterday evening because of this Og aweful heat we've been having. If you are alive and in the US you know what I speak of....

Anyway - today when I got home there was a watery sound coming from the air conditioner... it sounds like there is water bubbling around in it. It is extremely humid outside and I would think this is what is causing the condensation inside....

Is this normal? and should I worry about anything - or just let it run and cool us down?

doesn't sound normal to me... it actually sounds like there may be a freon leak.

The outside end needs to be slightly lower than the indoor side, so condensation can drain out of the bottom.

I went outside to check....it is on an angle...There's supposed to be some water sloshing around in there under hot humid conditions. The fan whips it around the outside (hot end) heat exchange coils so that they get some evaporative cooling.
The sloshing should go away when it gets less hot and humid.

I agree. Every one of my window units make that sloshing noise when it's very humid (pretty much all the time here). It's perfectly normal.

Here's a way to make sure it ain't the freon. ( Which, it ain't. )

Turn the a.c. unit on ONLY to "Fan". You will listen closely, just as you hit the button and hear the blades pushing up through the puddled water at the bottom of the unit. Then, the whoosing bubbly sound you have described.

It is as other's have said. It's designed, like mine and others, to use the water to cool the evaporators.
