View Full Version : What's your eye color?

Or for the non-USers, colour.

This thread (http://boards.academicpursuits.us/sdmb/showthread.php?t=409868) somehow mutated in my brain into thinking about my eyes. They're called hazel, or if you're feeling specific, green-brown hazel. But the real color is a lot more complicated than that. They're really a light green with an inner radiating ring of light brown streaks, with a thick outer ring of a dark gray-blue. It's no wonder that they seem to change color all the time.

Sorry for the horrible picture quality (http://bp1.blogger.com/_YrQtV0f_mEc/ReI14qtPWeI/AAAAAAAAABA/t7LiSkAfmQQ/s1600-h/0225071944.jpg), I took these with my picture phone (http://bp1.blogger.com/_YrQtV0f_mEc/ReI14qtPWdI/AAAAAAAAAA4/07MRBSx74tw/s1600-h/0225071943a.jpg) because I didn't have my camera handy (http://bp0.blogger.com/_YrQtV0f_mEc/ReI14atPWcI/AAAAAAAAAAw/huZyk1JzqBA/s1600-h/0225071943.jpg).

Brown. Just brown. No gold flecks, no green highlights, just brown.

But my boyfriend thinks they're pretty. :)

But my boyfriend thinks they're pretty. :)
I do to. Maybe it's because that's how I would describe my eyes. Except they're not pretty. They're rugged, handsome in a dashing sort of way, causing women to swoon when cast in their general direction.

Anybody who knows me in real life is laughing themselves silly about now.

Varies from light to dark grey, from rainy sky to charcoal paint. They used to be very very blue (think Paul Newman) but changed after puberty.

Mine are very similar to the way Risha's eyes sound. I have always called them Hazel.

I've got brown eyes that are mostly brown, but can change underlying tone at times. I also have a freckle/birth mark in my left eye. It's almost always a dark shade of brown.

Overall my eyes are pale green but on the far outside of the colored area is very, very thin quite dark green ring.

Almost completely black. I've never really ever been able to tell where my iris is (I have to take it on faith that I have one). Even when I shine a light right on my eye, it's just a deep tarry pool. I feel like I got totally robbed when it comes to eyes. I envy people who actually have different colors and flecks and pretty stuff.

Grey-green, with very light golden-brown flecks radiating from around the pupils.

I have no freakin' idea. Kind of green, but not really green green. I think they have a couple different colo(u)rs. There's a kind of reddish/brown semi-octagonal line thing, but mostly a kind of green, I think.

<aside> Honey, what color are my eyes?

Spice Weasel

According to my license, they're blue. I'm going with bluish-grey. Cite here. (http://pics.livejournal.com/om_mani_padme_/pic/0000330b/g8)

Also I have a brown star in the center, which you can never see in photos, because I have freakishly large pupils. Normally my freakishly large pupils drown out any eye color I have in photos--the above, shmaltzy picture was the only one I could find where my eye color was clearly visible.

Vibrant green, most of the time. This picture is a year or two old, but they haven't really changed. Except now I have someone saying they look blue. I don't see it.

Oh, one thing I heard, not sure if it's true, but that your iris that has dots or more coloring, variations, is the dominant side. So, if you're left handed, like me, your left iris will have more variations. Cool.

Mine are basically grey, that most people try to classify as a "lazy" blue- meaning kind of dull-colored blue, but they do tend to look much bluer if I'm wearing something blue, and lean towards a greener color if I'm wearing something green.

Green. Unmistakeably green (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v449/frenchified/eyecropped.jpg). And also apparently a little bloodshot today. A lot of people I meet in real life think they're brown, because I wear glasses and they just don't pay attention, and almost everybody else in my family has brown eyes. There's a darker blue-green ring around the outside and a yellow ring around the pupil, because my eyes are fat, yo.

Mine are hazel, too. They vary from almost black to rich, emerald green depending on my mood and clothing. Funny enough, both my parent have/had blue eyes -- my Dad's were sky blue with golden flecks and my mother's are very pale blue. My daughter's eyes run from almost white/grey to almost sea-green -- she got the other end of the spectrum, I guess. Maybe weird eyes run in my family, I have a cousin with yellow eyes -- they'd be gorgeous if he weren't such a total waste of oxygen...

I usually say that my eyes are brown, but looked at more closely, they're actually a network of little fibres that are green around the middle part of the ring and reddish-brown nearer to the pupil, on a dark background, with an odd slate-grey ring on the outside.

On the subject of eye colour, during the last election, the posters of Bloc leader Gilles Duceppe had the sky photoshopped to be the exact same colour blue as his eyes. I heard from a friend of the guy who did it that that's what they were aiming for, but frankly it was creepy, as though they had bored holes through his head. Very arresting, but not necessarily in a good way.

Most of the time they're a light blue-gray, with a dark blue outer rings, and brown starbursts around the pupils like olivesmarch4th and dahfisheroo. But, there's a varient of blue that acts like hazel, and I inherited it from my grandfather. In the right mood or state of health they wander between light gray, green and turquoise.

I had no idea that they changed color until I was 16 and two people swore my eyes were green at that moment. (we were doing a class activity that divided people by eye color) One of them gave me a mirror because I didn't believe them - and they were right. It surprised the hell out of me, especially considering I hadn't been wearing green.

Mine are hazel. Like Risha's, its a little more complicated than that though...

When inside they are a deep green, with a dark brown circle on the outside edge. In the sun they turn gold-green, with a dark green band around the outside. My old glasses hid the color, but my current purple glasses (and stronger perscription, ugh!) emphasize them.

jakeline
02-25-2007, 11:40 PM
Dark hazelly green with reddish brown towards the middle with some funky lighter flecks in there. Here's a picture (http://flickr.com/photos/jakeline/115137272/). However, I'm so pale (and I wear glasses) that they usually just seem brown unless you catch me in the sun.

Really a nice green, but because of my squinty little eyes, most folks don't see them. I am amazed at the number of green eyed folks here, as they only found in about 2% (as I recall) of humanity.

Of course there was that National Geographic picture with the Afghan woman with green eyes....there are pockets of green eyed folks scattered here and there... and Northwest Europe is a hot spot too, so apparently there are a lot of Afghanis and NW european heritage folks here! http://boards.academicpursuits.us/sdmb/newreply.php?do=newreply&noquote=1&p=8297234#

Mine (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v731/trublmakr/Picture20.jpg) are brown around the iris, then olive-y green, then a darker green around that.

I always thought green eyes were fairly rare, but there seems to be an awful lot of dopers with them.

My eyes are pretty much a solid color, without a lot of specks or streaks. The ring around the edge of the iris is a similar color to the rest, but darker.

I seem to remember my eyes being truly blue, or blue/grey, when I was younger. Now I'm heading more into the cyan family (blue/green) - this Wikipedia link (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cyan#Shades_of_cyan_color_comparison_chart) has some color examples. Using some of those RGB color values, I made a little color palette with Photoshop - linky (http://img99.imageshack.us/my.php?image=eyecolorsyg9.png).

Depending on the light and what color I'm wearing, my eyes can be lighter or darker, more blue or more green. I'd say that most of the time my eyes are similar to the two colors on the bottom (Robin Egg/Medium Aquamarine). Sometimes they look more blue like Medium Turquoise. Occasionally they're a lighter blue, like Aquamarine Blue.

Indeed. A lot of fat eyes (https://academicpursuits.us/classics/a971205.html) in this thread!

Eye color is mainly a function of the pigment melanin. If your eyes have a lot of it, they're brown. If they don't, they're blue. (Some details of this explanation are in dispute, but don't worry about that now.) Green eyes result from yellowish flecks of fatty pigment against a dark background. Some men think a green-eyed woman is exotic. The truth is she's got fat eyes.

You have my eyes! Well, kinda. Mine are bluer, but not blue. You do not have fat eyes. You just have enough padding to hold onto. I have fat eyes. I think my eyes are bluer because I have more yellow radiating through my irises, so they can look blue from a distance. Or green. Depending on what I'm wearing. And the light. And color of the room. And...

I never know what to put down on those damn forms that ask for eye color. No one I ask ever gives me a good answer, either.
