This is not the first time this has ever happened . . but I notice that I cannot taste beer for a few minutes after taking an Advil, especially after breaking the tablet.

Or is it bad beer? About a month ago I threw away a half a case of LaBatts becasue I though it was skunked. But AAWWWWWWWW . . now it just happened with a Michelob light. This actually has happened to me a few times with different brands. Am I the only freak this has happened to? Or is there someting in Advil that kills your taste buds?

I need to know how much I should eat my heart out for throwing away those LaBatts.

I remember hearing that alcohol and aspirin both thin the blood. Although, what I think you have taken contains NO aspirin, I don't think you have anything to worry about! As far as the not tasting things, I recommend not doing coke... it always makes MY tongue numb....good luck..

naughty naughty squee

there are studies showing that mixing ibuprophen and alcohol do two things : make the alcohol "buzz" seem stronger and come on earlier, and increase your chances of liver cancer by about 20 times

enjoy

I've also heard that taking aspirin or ibuprofin while drinking alcohol does terrible things to your stomach lining, so you shouldn't take precautionary pre-hangover meds before bed when drunk.

What about acetaminophen? The Tylenol bottle says something about consulting a doctor if you drink 3 or more drinks a day and wish to take pain relievers.

On a work night, I may have a beer or two at haapy hour and later have a headache. I don't want to drink enough to kill the pain because I want to be fresh for work the next day. I go ahead and take Tylenol. Is this a bad thing?

IIRC, all OTC analgesics now contain the 3-drinks-per-day warning.

This is because the pills can do *something* horrible (hemmorhage, maybe?) to certain internal organs of alcoholics.

The warning is phrased this way because there are a lot of people who drink 3-a-day or more and don't think of themselves as alcoholics.

Only three drinks a day? Hell, how are you supposedd to get a buzz on that?

You should never take analgesics with beer. They don't work as good as more beer.

Sounds like a weak Mickey Finn. Ought to be fun finding a name for that.

Alcohol is great for the heart [but not so hot for other organs]. Aspirin is great for the heart too. Seems like a double doze of great for the heart.

Ibuprofen (Advil) can be hard on the kidneys, which are already working overtime trying to deal with the alcohol you've taken in. So trying to prophylactically kill pain with that tactic might be an overload. Better to drink a lot of water, and keep another big glass by the bed as needed.

Geeze, that's a real hard one to figure out.
Chew some chemical tablet that tastes just plain nasty, then drink some beer.

Your supposed to swallow that stuff, not chew it. Why do you think?
Why would they make it a little bitty hard pill? Huh?

As far as liver damage from taking the stuff, beer works, but you have to drink it for a really long time and in copious amounts.
A pair of tylenol for the morning after won't do much harm, unless you have too many morning afters, and have to hit them repeatedly. Like 3000mg times 365 mornings.
That's way too much.
Even then, the less the better.
Either poison.

Taking 3000mg of tylenol at one time is a very bad idea, especially after drinking.

"Primary toxic metabolite increased with ethanol, severe hepatitis or fulminant hepatic failure may occur after single doses of 7500-15000 mg in normal adults, or >4000mg in alcoholics; great individual variability."

Seriously gang tylenol overdose is nothing to take lightly

I can't swallow pills (I even have a helluva time swallowing Sudafed!), so they usually melt somewhat in my mouth. I noticed a long time ago that when I try to swallow ibuprofen I have that numb feeling the OP mentioned. I can't taste anything (I don't drink beer). It takes about 5-10 minutes for taste to come back.
