Why was there never an Angel/Charmed crossover?

In all the five-season run of Angel there was never, so far as I know, a crossover with Charmed. Why not? Wouldn't it make a lot of sense? There's some differences in the shows' mythology, but they're both WB supernatural-adventure shows.

AFAIK, they took place in different "universes" ala DC and Marvel. They had a lot in common, but weren't made by the same production company.

Also, for the truly rabid fans, there were a lot of minor continuity notes between the buffyverse and charmed that would make an official crossover difficult... charmed vampires are quite different from joss whedon's vampires, and the way witches and wiccans are portrayed in buffyverse doesn't quite jibe with the halliwell's experience. In fact, there was an off-the-cuff buffy pop culture reference in an early charmed episode.

Fandom crossovers are a completely different beast, and there must be hundreds of them out there at this point, mostly fanfics and internet RP games. They really are fairly close in tone and worldview.

But the 'different studios' thing is probably the biggest dealbreaker. Crossovers between shows on different networks from the same studio have been known to happen -- I'm uncertain of any between different studios even on the same network.

I'm trying to think of other crossovers that would be as ill-advised as this one. So far I've got:

Battlestar Galactica and Star Wars
Matlock and Law and Order: SVU
E.R. and Scrubs
Band of Brothers and The A-Team
The Daily Show and Access Hollywood

Actually, I'd pay money to see that last one.

Now this :
Band of Brothers and The A-Team
I would pay to see !!

Just think of it : the Bravo team gets hammered by mortar fires in the frozen forests of the Ardennes, when suddenly the A-team drives up !!!!
Within minutes they assemble a tank made of frozen dirt and twigs and crush the Nazi's.

Because when you mix stinky crap with fragrant cheese, all you end up with is stinky crap.

[i]Homicide: Life on the Street[/b] and Law and Order. Dick Wolf Productions and Barry Levinson's Baltimore Pictures. (Though they were on the same network.)

There's also John Munch's appearance on The X Files, which is both cross-network and cross-production company (no matter what other series you count).

As for a cross-network crossover, there's Allie McBeal and The Practice, though they were both David Kelly Productions.

There are probably others.

Even forgetting the universe discrepencies, let's think about logic: "Charmed" is set in San Fran and "Angel" is in LA.

Another problem with crossover shows is syndication. If a plotline starts in one series and ends in another, those eps will probably be pulled from the syndication package. The only example I can recall right away is a Happy Days, Laverne and Shirley crossover. The storyline started on HD and ended on L&S, but Garry Marshall had the presence of mind to film an alternate ending to HD that wrapped up the plot, albeit awkwardly. That way that episode could still be included in the synd. package, but I don't think the corresponding L&S episode ever was.

And those were both from the same production company. I can't image the kind of script gymnastics necessary to make shows from different companies usable after-market.

So which is which, or shouldn't I ask?

Depends. If you're a Charmed fan, you shouldn't ask.

Honestly, I'm just kidding around a bit. I never cared much for Charmed, but seems a tolerable, if forgettable, little show.

Except for Rose McGowan, of course. Rrrowr.

Indeed yes. The Practice and Boston Public (cross-network, same producers); The Practice and, um, Gideon's something, the Andre Brougher show that went less than a season (IIRC same network and producers); X-Files and Picket Fences (different networks, same producers); X-Files and The Simpsons (a sketchy example, no pun intended, since there was nothing AFAIK from The Simpsons on the X-Files, but same network different producers).

And no discussion of TV crossovers would be complete without a mention of The Multiverse of Tommy Westphal.

Eh, I could take or leave Charmed. I've watched it a few times and it just seems like Aaron Spellings' attempt to gain a few Buffy viewers.

Too bad I can't watch it since all three of those women are just soooooo hot!

Of course, it could simply be that each TV show's private universe includes quantum duplicates of significant characters in other shows, but I like that website better.

Which show are you characterizing as "stinky crap" and which as "fragrant cheese"?

Sorry, should've read the whole thread-to-date before posting.

So you "can't watch it" because you don't like it, or because Lady Ashtar won't let you?

You should tell the WB then, since every Buffy/Angel episode ever done was billed as a crossover.

I'm a fan of both Angel and Charmed, but I don't see a crossover working. They're a different flavor, if you will. Angel dark, sometimes funny. Charmed kind of funny, sometimes dark. Charmed would have been great crossed with the short-lived (a 2001 news-marathon victim) Dead Last. I don't know what I'd cross Angel with...maybe The X-Files(which would work with Charmed too) or The Profiler.
